2008 North
Carolina
Angus
Association
Handbook
Dedicated to
Jane Fowler
Submitted
by:
Suzanne
Brewer -
Executive
Secretary,
North
Carolina
Angus
Association
One
of the
highlights
of the
annual
Spring Fever
pre-sale
activities
is the
dedication
of our
handbook.
The
Association
handbook is
printed
yearly and
is a major
fundraiser
for the
Association.
We
appreciate
the ads
placed by
our members
and by our
business
partners.
This is an
excellent
opportunity
for cattle
related
businesses
to reach
their target
population.
We print
around 2000
copies and
they are
mailed to
all members,
business
partners and
sponsors.
They are
also
available by
contacting
the
Association
office and
wherever our
North
Carolina
Angus
display is
set up.
I know the
honor of
being the
recipient of
the handbook
dedication;
in 2004, Ray
and I
received the
dedication.
Jane Fowler
truly
deserves
this honor
for her
“behind the
scene”
contributions
to our
Association
for over 50
years. In
2007,
Wakelon
Angus Farm
received the
American
Angus
Historic
Angus Herd
award for
being a
continuous
producer of
Angus cattle
for over 50
years. Jane
and her late
husband J.R.
Fowler moved
to their
farm and
began their
Angus herd
in 1955.
Jane has
served as
the
Association
historian
for a number
of years.
She has kept
files on the
Angus facts,
figures and
events.
Following
Margaret
Cheeks
beginning,
Jane has
written the
50th and
60th year
histories of
the North
Carolina
Angus
Association.
They have
been printed
and we are
grateful for
her
contribution
to “pass on”
our history.
She is a
member of
the North
Carolina
Angus
Auxiliary
and a
supporter of
the Junior
Angus
Association.
Until the
death of J.
R. in 2000,
he and Jane
took
responsibility
for the
North
Carolina
State Fair
trailer.
Each fall
Jane made
sure it was
well stocked
with
literature,
cleaned and
organized;
J.R. handled
taking it to
the cattle
barn at the
fair and
making sure
that there
were
volunteers
to man the
booth during
the fair.
J.R. and
Jane spent
many hours
manning the
booth and
talking with
folks who
stopped by
with
questions or
just to
talk. Jane
still
volunteers
her time
helping with
the booth.
Stop by this
fall and
talk “Angus”
with her.
Jane has
always been
one to
volunteer to
help
wherever she
is needed
and to give
words of
encouragement
to others.
It was an
honor to
dedicate the
2008 North
Carolina
Angus
handbook to
Jane Fowler. |
