2009 North Carolina Angus Association’s Out West Sale

By:
Suzanne Brewer, Secretary

I think Out West Sale means rain!! If memory serves me correctly, the weather was usually better when the sale was in March; we usually enjoyed an early spring weekend. Since we’ve moved to April, it’s “April Showers”. But after late 2007 and early 2008, let’s not complain about the rain.

We had a really good set of cattle; not as many as in the past years, but really good condition, good bred cows and some excellent calves at side. We sold 46 lots for an average of $1,320.00, sale gross on $60,700.00.

Keaton Vandemark, Vandemark Angus of Spring Hope, consigned the top selling cow/calf pair. Lot 16 was an OCC Kickboxer cow with an OCC Missing Link heifer calf born in December at her side. She was A-I bred to OCC Magnitude and is due in December. James Grant, Kendleton, Texas, purchased this three in one package for $2,600.00. Cow/calf pairs averaged $1,662.00.

David Ray of Double Down Ranch, Marion, consigned the top selling bred cows. Eddie Leagans of Mocksville bought lots 18 & 19 for $1,300.00 each. Lot 18 was a GAR Consensus daughter and lot 19 was a BT Ultravox daughter, both were A-I bred and then pasture exposed and examined safe. Bred cows averaged $1,170.00.

There were 15 lots of exceptional bred heifers. Lot 50 consigned by Andy House, House Farms, Smithfield, was the top selling lot, she sold to Danzel Fox, New Holland, Pa., for $2,200.00. A Rito 1I2 daughter she was safe to HF Farm Hand, a Boyd on Target son. Bred heifers averaged $1,257.00.

Cool Spring Plantation, Halifax always consigns good bred and open heifers. The top selling open heifer was one of their consignments. Barry Gray, Lexington, purchased Lot 45 for $975.00. She was a Mytty In Focus daughter out of a Sugar Loaf Direct Hit and E161 cross female. Open heifers averaged $861.00.

Volumn buyer was Chad Earp, Triple E. Farm, Morganton, NC. He purchased 14 lots for $15,565.00. Thank you Mr. Earp for your support of North Carolina Angus cattle!

Thank you to all the consignors and the buyers at the 2009 Out West Sale. Thank you to Marty Long of Deep Creek for all the hard work you did to get everything ready for the sale.

We look forward to seeing you in 2010, the second Saturday in April at Deep Creek Farms in Yadkinville.
