2011 North Carolina Angus Association’s Out West Sale

The 2011 Out West Sale was held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Shuffler Farm in Union Grove.  Friday and Saturday were both dreary, cloudy spring days; but the grass in the paddocks was green and we had several folks come on Friday afternoon to view the cattle.  Saturday continued the cloudy weather, but it was warm in the sale facility.

We sold seven lots of registered cow/calf pairs for $11,875 to average $1,696.  The top selling cow/calf pair was lot 2 & 2A, consigned by Brewer Farms, Lexington.  She was a New Dimension 7127 daughter with a Quaker Hill Revolution 6E2 heifer calf at side born in September 2010 and she was bred back the same way. Walnut Hill Farms, Hiddenite, purchased the lot 2 cow for $1,200.  Blue Q Ranch purchased her daughter lot 2A for $900.

We sold three lots of registered bred cows for $4,275 to average $1,425.  The top selling lot was lot 10 consigned by Gordon Brothers Farm, Kings Mountain.  She was a Bon View New Design 878 daughter bred to Connealy 004 062 and due in September, she sold for $1,525; Warren Miller Farm, Jefferson, purchased her.

Three lots of registered bred heifers brought $4,225 to average $1,408.  Lot 12 was the top lot, consigned by Gragg Farms, Boone; she sold for $1,625 and was also purchased by Warren Miller Farms.  She was a Sinclair Express 643 daughter bred to Nichols Extra K205 and pasture exposed to Sitz Upward 442W and was SAFE in calf due to calve in the fall.

Seven lots of registered open heifers brought $8,800 to average $1,257.  Quail Valley Angus, Indian Trail, consigned lots 23 and 24X, both brought $1,450 and were purchased by K.H. Ingle of Burlington.  They were two SAV 8180 Traveler 004 flush sisters.
Nine lots of commercial/crossbred cow/calf pairs brought $15,775 to average $1,753.  The top selling lot was lot 34 consigned by Shuffler Farm.  A Sim-Angus cow, she sold with a February heifer calf, sired by BF M212 Easy Roll the Shuffler Simmental herd sire and was purchased by Catherine Harward, Richfield. 
Three lots of commercial/crossbred bred cows brought $4,500 to average $1,500.  Gold Hill Angus, Princeton, consigned all three lots, which are due in the fall. Carolina Cattle Farm, Taylorsville purchased lot 37 for $1,550.
We sold thirty-three lots of commercial/crossbred bred heifers for $42,450 to average $1,288.   Top selling lots 62, 63, 65 were consigned by Vandemark Angus of Spring Hope and brought $1,600 each.  They were Sim-Angus flush mates born in September 2009.  They were A-I bred to OCC Magnitude, SAFE to calve in November 2011.

Ten lots of commercial/crossbred open heifers sold for $9,050 to average $905.  Top lots were consigned by Bittersweet Farms, Ennice; lots 78 and 79 sold for $1,050 to Carolina Cattle Farm, Taylorsville. 
Sale gross was $100,950; with $29,175 being registered cattle and $71,775 being from commercial/crossbred lots. 

Volume buyers were James Ray Herman, Moravian Falls who purchased 19 lots for $22,825 and K.H. Ingle, Burlington who purchased 11 lots for $16,525.
